Concerning the Role
As an Analytics Engineer, you will join the Finance Data team early on, helping to lay the groundwork for scaling analytics across our business units and transferring best practices for data management to a quickly developing company. Together with other business teams and important Finance stakeholders, you will collaborate to identify their problems and take the initiative to come up with workable, long-term solutions. Additionally, you will independently oversee your own projects to improve OpenAI's metrics reporting and assist business teams in making data-driven decisions. You will eventually have the chance to advance to the point where you can take ownership of a functional domain and handle all aspects of service maintenance.
Our core search criteria are those with a track record of successfully managing the whole data stack at high transaction volume organizations, catering to key stakeholders like revenue operations or strategic finance.
Based in San Francisco, California, is this role. We operate a hybrid work paradigm wherein new hires receive relocation assistance in addition to working three days a week in the office.
In this position, you'll:
Recognize the data requirements of the finance teams, including those in revenue, infrastructure, corporate accounting, and strategic finance, and convert that understanding into technical specifications.
Encourage the creation of tools and data products that will enable self-service and allow analytics to grow throughout the organization.
In charge of dimensional design: create, possess, and manage data marts with an enterprise focus.
Be a cross-functional evangelist for maintaining strict data integrity guidelines and SLAs for prompt data delivery.
Throughout the organization, democratize company core metrics and provide updates as appropriate.
Create incisive and trustworthy dashboards to monitor business performance in relation to the budget.
Contribute from a data systems standpoint to the business teams' future roadmap.
Become an authority on OpenAI's data architecture and finance data.
five or more years of experience in a related position as an analytics engineer, data analyst, or data engineer, with a track record of delivering canonical datasets
Having compassion for company stakeholders and being aware of their daily struggles
strong familiarity with at least one functional/OOP language, such as Python or R, and strong SQL skills for data handling
expertise in creating multi-step ETL tasks and coordinating workflows (e.g., Airflow, Dagster) and familiar with handling distributed data stores (e.g., S3, Trino, Hive, Spark)
competent in creating unit tests for version control systems (such as GitHub and Stash) and data products
expert at using dashboarding technologies (such as Tableau, Looker, or comparable ones) to create visually stunning data visualizations
Outstanding interpersonal abilities and the ability to convey narratives based on data both orally and in writing
able to solve unclear problem statements in an early stage setting without difficulty

The previous position involved serving key stakeholders like Strategic Finance or Revenue Operations while embedded in FP&A or Go-To-Market teams.
familiarity with writing in Scala
a solid grasp of Spark and the capacity to create, troubleshoot, and optimize Spark jobs
Pay Range: $210K to $265K
